Not being able to try on clothes is one of the biggest drawbacks to shopping for attire online. Now, Walmart is trying to solve that problem by rolling out virtual fitting room technology.
Walmart’s new service — a result of acquiring the virtual fitting room platform Zeekit last year — allows customers to better understand how a clothing item will look on them before they purchase it.
Those who use either the Walmart app or Walmart.com now can take advantage of the Choose My Model experience, which lets you see how clothing looks on any of 50 models between the height of 5 feet 2 inches and 6 feet, as well as sizes XS through XXXL.
By selecting the model who best represents your height, body shape and skin tone, you can get a better sense of whether the item is right for you.
Brands that currently are part of Choose My Model include:
- Free Assembly
- Sofia Jeans by Sofia Vergara
- ELOQUII Elements
- Time and Tru
- Athletic Works
- Terra & Sky
- No Boundaries
- The Pioneer Woman
National brands — starting with Levi’s and Hanes — also will be included.
If an item is part of the Choose My Model experience, online shoppers will see a prompt to select a model on the item webpage.
Over time, Walmart plans to expand its model selection, adding at least 70 more model options in the weeks ahead, as well as a wider range of sizes, skin tones and hair colors. It also will add more national brands to Choose My Model in coming months.
According to a Walmart press release:
“Our new Choose My Model capability is just the beginning. We are also working to launch a virtual try-on experience for women’s apparel, moving with speed to bring this groundbreaking technology to our customers.”
The new virtual fitting room technology is just the latest in a host of changes at Walmart. For more, check out:
